Annyeong, yeoreobun! It's Yul from KVIBE IDOLS. This is the dish every Korean student makes when they're hungry at midnight. Kimchi bokkeumbap, kimchi fried rice. Ten minutes, one pan.
The secret? Old kimchi. Kimchi that's a little too sour to eat alone is perfect for cooking.
Let's cook. Chop one cup of kimchi into small pieces. Keep some kimchi juice. Cut a little bacon, ham or Spam into small cubes.
Heat a spoon of oil in a pan. Fry the meat first until it's a little crispy. Add chopped green onion and the kimchi, and stir fry for three minutes. Add half a spoon of sugar to balance the sour taste, and one spoon of gochujang or chili flakes.
Now add one bowl of cooked rice. Day old rice is best. Break it up and mix everything well. Add two spoons of kimchi juice, one spoon of soy sauce, and stir for two more minutes.
Turn off the heat and add a little sesame oil.
Yul's tip! Put a fried egg on top with a runny yolk, and sprinkle seaweed flakes and sesame seeds. Break the yolk, mix it in. Cheap, fast, and so good. Masitge deuseyo!
