Annyeong, yeoreobun! It's Yul! Today we're in Seongnae-dong, in Gangdong, east Seoul, in front of JYP Entertainment. And the founder here isn't just a boss. He's a pop star who still sings and dances on stage!

His name is Park Jin-young, or J.Y. Park. He debuted as a solo singer in 1994 with the song Don't Leave Me. Then, in 1997, he started a company called Tae-Hong Planning. In 2001, it was renamed after his stage name: JYP.

Here's a fun twist. In those early years, one of the songwriters working right beside him was Bang Si-hyuk, who later founded Big Hit, today's HYBE. The two made hits together for the group g.o.d. So two of K-pop's biggest companies share a songwriting past!

JYP also gave the world Wonder Girls, whose song Nobody entered the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009. Today the family includes 2PM, DAY6, TWICE, Stray Kids, ITZY, NMIXX, NiziU, Xdinary Heroes, NEXZ and KickFlip.

Plot twist number two! JYP left Gangnam in 2018 for a renovated ten-story building right here. In 2026 it dropped plans for a brand-new headquarters nearby and decided to buy another building close to home instead. Daebak!

Yul's tip! JYP Center is an office, not a museum, so enjoy it from outside. Stay on the sidewalk, don't block cars or doors, and give the guards a polite hello. Never follow artists or wait at anyone's home. Gangdong-gu Office Station on Line 8 is a short walk away.
