Annyeong, yeoreobun! It's Yul! Today we're in Hapjeong, west Seoul, home of the label with maybe the most swagger in K-pop: YG Entertainment! And guess what? In 2026, YG is celebrating thirty years.

The founder, Yang Hyun-suk, was a member of Seo Taiji and Boys, the group that shook up Korean pop music in the early 1990s. In 1996 he started his own company, first called Hyun Planning. Later it became Yang Goon Planning, after his nickname, and in 2001 it took the short name we know: YG.

Here's the twist. While other big agencies lived in Gangnam and kept moving around, YG stayed loyal to Hapjeong, its home since 1998. In 2020 it even finished a brand-new building right next to the old one. Hip-hop spirit, Hongdae neighborhood, no moving trucks!

YG gave us BIGBANG, 2NE1, WINNER and iKON. Today's stars are BLACKPINK, TREASURE and BABYMONSTER. In 2026, BLACKPINK released the EP DEADLINE, BABYMONSTER went on a world tour, and BIGBANG opened their twentieth anniversary world tour in Goyang. A new five-member boy group is also on the way. Daebak!

Yul's tip! From Hapjeong Station Exit 8, it's about a five-minute walk. Visit the SamE, YG's fan space near the main entrance, reopened in March 2026 with listening zones and a photo booth. The headquarters is private, so take photos from the street, keep the driveway clear, and never follow artists or wait near their homes.

Next, let's leave the idols for a moment and travel back six hundred years to a royal palace. Kaja!
