Annyeong, yeoreobun! Yul here, in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam. This is the neighborhood of Starship Entertainment, the agency behind IVE, MONSTA X and CRAVITY. And this story starts with a guy carrying other people's bags.

Kim Shi-dae began as a road manager for the group Cool. In 2005, he joined a small company called Big Hit Entertainment, working with producer Bang Si-hyuk. Yes, that Big Hit, the future home of BTS! But in 2007 he left to chase his own dream, and in 2008 he founded Starship. Its first artist was the singer K.Will. In 2010 came SISTAR, and the little ship took off.

Plot twist number one: in 2013, the company that is now Kakao Entertainment bought a majority stake, and it is still the biggest shareholder today. Plot twist number two: in December 2021, a girl group called IVE debuted and won a music show faster than any girl group before them. In 2026 alone, IVE released a full album, toured North America and Asia, and came back in October with Looks Can Kill. Daebak!

And the ship keeps growing. In 2025, Starship bought a nearby building for a new headquarters, and in October 2026 it decided to buy the plot next door, too.
